AQT90 FLEX provides the highest clinical specificity for D-dimer according to Danish study

A recent study by the Institute of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark concluded that Radiometer’s AQT90 FLEX immunoassay analyzer currently provides the highest clinical specificity for D-dimer when compared to four existing products in the market today.

By providing a D-dimer assay with high specificity, the AQT90 FLEX can reduce the likelihood of a false-positive and the unnecessary scans that may follow that diagnosis by up to 50%.

Superior performance of D-dimer assay

In the study, the D-dimer assay on the AQT90 FLEX is compared to that of Auto-Dimer (Biopool), Liatest D-Di (Diagnostica Stago), Vidas New (bioMérieux), AxSYM D-dimer (Abbott). The specificity of the Radiometer assay demonstrated excellent performance when used in the diagnosis of deep vein trombosis (DVT).

While the negative predicative value (NPV) and ROC of AQT90 FLEX D-dimer demonstrated diagnostic performance comparable to established D-dimer assays, the positive predicative value (PPV) and specificity of AQT90 FLEX D-dimer test were shown to be superior to the other tests investigated.

Cost savings and faster decision-making in the ED

By providing a D-dimer assay with high specificity, the AQT90 FLEX can reduce the likelihood of a false-positive and the unnecessary scans that may follow that diagnosis by up to 50%. This enables emergency departments (ED) to better rule out the healthy and focus their resources on the critically ill.

Competitor assays provide a 30-60% specificity on D-dimer. This means that 70-40% of tested patients will end up with a false-positive result. These patients must undergo further tests and scans to exclude thrombotic disorders, which is both expensive and time-consuming for hospitals. On the AQT90 FLEX, however, the specificity of the D-dimer assay is greater than 70%, which dramatically lowers the percentage of healthy patients getting a false-positive result.

Compelling solution for the point of care

In addition to D-dimer, the AQT90 FLEX also measures Troponin I, CKMB, Myoglobin, NT-proBNP, CRP and ßhCG. The comprehensive test panel makes the AQT90 FLEX a compelling solution for emergency rooms and intensive care units looking to improve the measurement of these assays at the point of care.
