1st Automatic - video transcript

Narrator:

  • What if you could reduce preanalytical errors?

  • What if you could reduce the risk of patient-sample mix-up?

  • What if you could increase health care professionals’ safety by reducing the risk of contact with patient blood?

  • What if you could spend less time on sample processing and more time on patient care?

With 1st Automatic, you can.

1st Automatic is a unique solution combining Radiometer blood gas analyzers, pre-barcoded safePICO syringes and AQURE FLEXLINK. 1st Automatic enables you to register health care professional, patient and sample IDs at the bedside, reducing the risk of patient-sample mix-up.

1st Automatic supports you to:

  • Reduce manual steps

  • Minimize the risk of preanalytical errors

  • Minimize the risk of patient-sample mix-up

This means you’ll have the right result, for the right patient, at the right time – every time.

Here’s how it works.

Start by scanning your personal ID, your unique barcode.

Scan the patient’s ID barcode and then, the pre-barcoded safePICO syringe.

Your patient’s demographics are displayed on the AQURE FLEXLINK screen. These data are now linked together and sent to the analyzer.

Prepare the safePICO syringe and collect a blood gas sample.

Narrator:

After taking the sample, place the vented safeTIPCAP on the safePICO syringe and expel air bubbles. The vented safeTIPCAP helps minimize health care professionals’ contact with patient blood, as well as room air contamination.

Take the sample to the ABL blood gas analyzer for analysis.

Begin by scanning the barcode on the safePICO syringe using the scanner. Your patient’s data will be shown on the analyzer.

Place the sample in the inbuilt safePICO mixer for automatic mixing.

Automatic mixing is a unique way of mixing blood gas samples prior to analysis. It standardizes mixing and ensures a homogeneous sample enabling more accurate hemoglobin results, without causing hemolysis. Then, use the auto-inlet to aspirate the syringe. The vented safeTIPCAP stays on while the blood gas sample is analyzed.

Narrator:

The ABL 800 FLEX blood gas analyzer enables fully automated scanning, mixing and aspiration of blood samples with the FLEXQ module. When using pre-barcoded safePICO syringes, simply Drop-n-Go; the analyzer retrieves sample and patient information.

Once the analysis is complete, the AQURE POC IT solution will send your patient’s results to the bedside and/or your hospital’s LIS/HIS systemIf the time between sample collection and aspiration has exceeded your chosen sample age limit, AQURE will flag the result.

This means you’ll have the right results, for the right patient, at the right time.

Narrator:

With 1st Automatic, you can spend more time with the patient and less time in front of the analyzer.

  • Optimize your blood gas workflow by reducing manual steps

  • Improve blood gas results by minimizing the risk of pre-analytical errors

  • Improve confidence through minimizing the risk of patient-sample mix-up

For peace of mind in critical care, there’s 1st Automatic.
